FORMER Johannesburg mayor Parks Tau’s new job keeps him in the local government sector: he has been appointed chairman of the South African Local Government Association (Salga).Tau was also recently appointed to the advisory board of the World Resources Institute (WRI) as it establishes itself in Africa.The WRI describes itself as a "global research organisation working on six critical goals that the world must achieve this decade in order to secure a sustainable future: climate, energy, food, forests, water and cities".He plans to stand for the presidency of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG)‚ a global body, in Bogota‚ Columbia, this month."These appointments and the UCLG nomination are a clear vote of confidence in Comrade Tau’s leadership following his deployment between 2011 and 2016 as an Executive Mayor of Africa’s economic hub‚ the city of Johannesburg‚" the ANC’s greater Johannesburg region said.UCLG is based in Barcelona.
