A COMPLAINT about Supreme Court of Appeal Justice Ronnie Bosielo’s involvement in a black economic empowerment deal with Northam Platinum saw him on Tuesday withdrawing at the last minute from vying for a post on the Constitutional Court, derailing the process.When the judge explained that he had derived no benefit from the deal but rather that it had helped his impoverished community, EFF leader Julius Malema, a Judicial Service Commission (JSC) commissioner, said on Tuesday that Justice Bosielo had to choose between the bench and being a politician.The judge’s dramatic pullout from the interviews meant there were three candidates left, while the Constitution requires a minimum of four.This means two vacancies remain at the highest court.The JSC and Justice Bosielo received a complaint on the eve of the interviews that relates to the judge’s involvement in bringing his village, Phalane, into the empowerment deal with Northam Platinum through a trust known as the Batlase Development...
