TOP business leaders, who in August appealed to President Jacob Zuma to protect Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and rein in the Hawks for the sake of stability, said on Thursday that nothing had been done to allay their fears and that subsequent events had worsened them. Business Leadership SA (BLSA), which represents big business and major multinational investors, on Thursday joined a growing chorus of business leaders who in recent weeks have expressed dissatisfaction with the leadership of the country. The BLSA, however, did not express itself on whether Zuma should stay or go, but told the government that it required more action on the promises it had made. The most urgent matters requiring action were that: government policy on independent power producers remain unchanged; the new board of South African Airways produce a plan for sustainability; and Zuma sign the Financial Intelligence Centre Bill into law.
