A FEASIBILITY study into relocating Parliament to Pretoria will incorporate the socioeconomic effect such a move might have on Cape Town.In the past it has been estimated that relocating the institution would cost billions for two new houses of Parliament, three new parliamentary villages and an office block for MPs and officials.Those opposed to any move insist that it would be more cost-effective if the precinct in Cape Town was extended and upgraded.Should it be approved, the move would require amendments to the Constitution or a law of general application changing the seat of the national legislature.Parliament has invited bids from those interested in conducting a feasibility study into the socioeconomic impact and cost-effectiveness of such a move.This follows President Jacob Zuma’s suggestion in February that relocating the national legislature be considered as a way of curtailing state spending.At a meeting of interested parties, Nomxolisi Ojie, head of supply chain manageme...
