A BUILDING housing one of the country’s largest and most advanced data centres caught fire early on Thursday morning, possibly due to an electrical fault on the roof, onlookers said.The extent of the damage to the data centre is not yet known.The Great Westerford is a building located in the Cape Town suburb of Newlands and near the Newlands rugby stadium.Located in the basement of the building is a data centre owned and operated by Teraco, a company specialising in owning, operating and leasing data centre facilities to major South African companies, including all of the major commercial banks.Teraco’s investment in the data centre is worth about R120m. It was one of the first facilities the company built about six years ago.
