The rand was weaker against major currencies on Wednesday afternoon, despite the euro gaining to the dollar as fresh commentary from US President Donald Trump weighed on the greenback. The euro, which the rand usually tracks, gained against the dollar on Wednesday, after Trump said he might shut down the US government to fulfil an election pledge to build a wall on the US-Mexico border.
