The hope that US President Donald Trump will finally provide some details of his economic plans in a congressional address scheduled at 11pm Johannesburg time sent Tokyo’s Topix index up 0.8% on Tuesday morning. Trump’s speech would focus on economic opportunity and national security, administration officials said. Nedbank is scheduled to release its 2016 results on Tuesday. The bank has not released a trading statement, indicating its earnings for the year to end-December will be within 20% of the previous year’s. In its interim results, Nedbank reported losses in its 20% owned pan-African associate Ecobank had dragged its headline earnings per share (HEPS) growth down to 2% in the six months to end-June. Excluding Ecobank, Nedbank’s interim HEPS grew 20.1%. Royal Bafokeng Platinum (RBPlats) said in a trading statement on February 9 it expected to report a return to profit on Tuesday.
