In the 1990s BMW launched the Z3-based M Coupe, an oddity that resembled a motorised clown shoe. Eventually the oddness gave way to fondness and I was one of many who grew to love the design.
When the new 4 Series Coupe was uncovered earlier this year one was tempted to expect Leon Schuster to pop out with hidden cameras and tell us it was just a gag. Surely BMW couldn’t be serious about that oversized gnashing grille...
