Road trip: Mountain meets its match in Renault’s dusty runner

Occasionally you get those moments that create special memories that stay with you for a long time. This past weekend I was fortunate to experience exactly that. I was invited by Renault for a road trip to Clarens in the Free State for the Duster 4x4 off-road excursion. I have been quite curious to go on one of these trips to experience the true capabilities of these vehicles as I am sometimes sceptical about how good they are. I wasn’t disappointed at all about the Duster, although I was worried that I would break the vehicle as I would occasionally hear the underbelly scrape the rocks, but it held up well. The Duster’s background is that Carlos Ghosn, the head honcho at the Renault-Nissan Alliance, wanted the French marque to produce the first global family car that would be engineered to meet rigorous European standards but also be accessible to a wider market. This vehicle has proved a great success, with the company having sold 2-million vehicles globally since launch in 2012. ...
