Kia’s Sportage has been a key player in the segment with the previous generation having done particularly well for the brand. When the fourth-generation model launched locally in October 2016, we were expecting the model to pick up where its predecessor left off, but sadly it was not to be. Not that there was anything wrong with the product — quite the contrary — but rather there were gaping holes in its line-up at the time. There was a lowly specced entry-level version, while other models offered all-wheel drive only, which pushed their prices up. Then there was the GT Line at R600,000, which was the only model with all the niceties.
