Zwartkops Raceway was the backdrop for the sixth round of the Extreme Festival at the weekend and spectators came in their droves to watch the action. Headlining the show were two races for Sasol Global Touring Cars (GTC). Defending champion Michael Stephen (Engen Xtreme Audi) won the opening heat, followed by Simon Moss (Engen Xtreme Audi) in second and Mathew Hodges (VW Motorsport Jetta). Sadly there were some retirements that included Daniel Rowe (VW Motorsport Jetta) and Robert Wolk (Sasol BMW) after their cars made contact early in the race and had to stop later. Stephen won race two followed by Johan Fourie (EPS Couriers BMW) and Rowe. As a result, Stephen has taken the championship lead. Further incidents led to the retirements of Moss, Wolk, Michael van Rooyen (RSC BMW), Hodges and Bradley Liebenberg (Ferodo Mini JCW), while Genaro Bonafede’s BMW ran out of steam and stopped on the final lap.
