CITING Euro Ncap safety results is always a difficult thing because while a car might look the same in SA as the one in Europe, often there are differences in specification.But with little in the way of modern crash testing in SA or even in Africa, it is the best thing we have to go on when we look at how safe a vehicle might be.The organisation tests almost every model sold in Europe and is the benchmark when it comes to vehicle safety. These include adult and child occupant protection testing as well as pedestrian impact testing. Recently it also upgraded its tests to include the latest vehicle safety systems, many of which are essential in Europe either due to legislation or to consumer expectations.Obviously we cannot actually crash test each car ourselves, although often other drivers will do their best to get us to do so, but when we review a vehicle we often look at the Euro Ncap safety rating as a major component of how we allocate our own star rating to safety in road tests...
