PUMP-it-out author Peter James either has a hankering to return to his screenwriting days or fancies turning his talents to a TV detective series. His plot for Not Dead Yet is teetering somewhere in the middle, in a rather uncomfortable balancing act.The dialogue and some larger than life characters are pure movie script material, but the threads woven in from previous novels and loose ends left hanging at the end feel more like a TV saga than a neat stand-along novel.Sadly the loose ends aren’t left hanging as in the term cliff-hanger, because this novel isn’t that big. It’s a hill hanger, perhaps. Or a bump-in-the-road hanger.
