SA’s economy came up for air in the second quarter of 2019, avoiding its second recession in a year and expanding faster than economists predicted.

But that did not mean growth would return to the level needed to tackle an unemployment rate that has climbed to a 16-year high with sentiment still downbeat, economists said.
