Reserve Bank governor Lesetja Kganyago, has warned that three interest rate increases of 25 basis points each are likely to be announced by the end of 2019. Meanwhile, the Bank has kept its inflation outlook at 5.3% for this year and upped its forecasts for 2018 and 2019 slightly, citing the weaker rand and rising global oil prices. Kganyago said the economic policy implications of the ANC electoral conference in December would weigh on the local unit as well as credit rating reviews.
