EXCLUSIVE: Leaked Tekkie Town letter to Star CEO reveals the clash of cultures
Following the tumultuous resignation of Steinhoff Africa Retail’s (Star) speciality division CEO Bernard Mostert and chief operating officer Dawie Van Niekerk on Monday evening, which prompted a mass resignation of senior management at Star subsidiary Tekkie Town, Business Day has obtained a copy of a message sent by the company’s chief information officer to Star CEO Leon Lourens. The message, sent via WhatsApp on Tuesday morning, paints a picture of how strongly Tekkie Town employees appear to value, and identify with, the culture of the organisation created by its founder, Braam van Huyssteen, and how poorly they believe Van Huyssteen and the management team led by Mostert and Van Niekerk have been treated by the Star hierarchy, many of whom have spent most of their careers at Pepkor.
