Property developer Cosmas Cavaleros died on Wednesday, two months after he suffered a heart attack during an attempted robbery. Cavaleros crashed his vehicle in March while trying to flee from gunmen who were chasing him from the Central Square shopping centre in Pretoria. The Cavaleros Group’s work includes the development of the Maslow and Hilton hotels. "We are saddened at the loss of this giant of our industry," said Neil Gopal, CEO of the South African Property Owners Association. "Not only was Cosmas a construction mogul and property developer, but he changed the landscape of our industry with his developments and will always be an inspiration." An opportunity to extend condolences to the family has been arranged for Friday April 21 from 10am to 4pm at the Hilton Hotel in Johannesburg. Family spokeswoman Leila Daya said the funeral date would be announced at a later stage.
