HARMONY Gold Mining said on Friday that an employee had died at its Phakisa mine in the Free State.The gold producer said the death happened in a rail-bound equipment accident, which was being investigated."We are deeply saddened by this accident. My condolences go to the family, colleagues, and friends of the deceased," CE Peter Steenkamp said.Phakisa has two shafts, the main Phakisa shaft and Nyala shaft. Mining was conducted at a depth of 2,426 metres, according to the company website.In its interim results in June Harmony said that despite recording an overall improvement in safety performance for the year the company recorded 10 fatalities, from nine the previous year.It said: "Training and safety awareness campaigns continue at all of our operations."
