MINING juniors Coal of Africa (CoAL) and Continental Coal both received regulatory approvals on Friday for projects which are critical to the medium and long-term future of both companies.CoAL was granted environmental authorisation for its proposed Makhado coking coal mine in terms of the National Environmental Management Act and the Limpopo economic development, environment and tourism department’s environmental impact assessment regulations.Australian Stock Exchange-listed Continental Coal — which is planning to list on the JSE later this year — was granted a mining right for its De Wittekrans coal project by the Department of Mineral Resources.Continental Coal already has three mines in South Africa — Penumbra, Vlakvarkfontein and Ferreira — which produce 2.8-million tons of thermal coal annually.De Witte krans is expected to come into production within the next 12 months and Continental is targeting a total run-of-mine production rate of 10-million tons per year by the end of 2...
