STATE-owned forestry company Safcol is in talks with the government over the acquisition of additional forestry land, chairman Lungile Mabece says.The expansion is based on the company’s 2016-21 corporate strategy, which envisages a "business unusual" approach of product diversification, community enterprise development and a thrust into Africa.Mabece said in his foreword to the Safcol annual report for 2014-15, which has been tabled in Parliament, that the talks with government were at an advanced stage.READ THIS: Processing of Safcol land claims ‘has been slow and protracted’The company also plans to partner with black-owned enterprises to increase its capacity to use its wood to manufacture furniture and other wooden products.Land claims continue to bedevil Safcol planning as well as the stability and sustainability of its business.There are land claims on about 61% of the 187,320ha that Safcol leases from the state for its plantations in Limpopo, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal.
