JSE Ltd, the listed company that manages SA’s dominant bourse, is standing by its decision to appoint a Tongaat Hulett board member and chair of the troubled group’s audit and compliance committee to a committee that oversees the exchange’s regulatory functions.

In September last year Africa’s oldest and largest stock exchange appointed Fatima Daniels, then an ordinary member of the Tongaat board, to its board with effect from October 1 2018. The JSE said Daniels would join its audit committee as well as the group self-regulatory organisation (SRO) oversight committee.
