The government should incentivise competition rather than set internet connectivity prices, businessman Johan van der Merwe said on Friday, days after the country’s competition watchdog recommended that MTN and Vodacom should slash prices or face prosecution.

Speaking on a conference call with investors after a business update by ARC, African Rainbow Capital co-CEO Van der Merwe said the government should facilitate competition instead of interfering in cellphone data prices.
