Sasol counts cost of Lake Charles blast
The fire damage is a setback to the chemicals company’s mega-project in Louisiana
Chemicals group Sasol says it is assessing the damage from an explosion at its Lake Charles plant in Louisiana, US, an incident that has helped shave R25bn off the group’s market value in the past week.
The explosion could be heard across southwest Louisiana and blew the hurricane doors off a fire department building located next to the plant, Bloomberg reported. The unit — one of two large polymers plants — is a key part of the Lake Charles operations.
