The worst may be over for Sasol’s Lake Charles project in Louisiana as the synfuels and chemicals giant says it is firmly in control of the project of nearly $12bn (R166bn) and more confident of its cost estimates and timelines for the megabuild.

Sasol and market analysts have long expected the project, an industrial facility that will convert gas into derivative products, to be a game changer for the company.
