The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (Zesa) owed R443m to Eskom as at the beginning of this month for its purchases of electricity, Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown has revealed.

The minister said in a written reply to a parliamentary question by DA spokeswoman on public enterprises Natasha Mazzone that the R500m financial guarantee issued by Zesa in favour of Eskom covered the debt and "consequently, there is no current financial exposure to Eskom".

Brown noted that Eskom was looking at increasing the financial guarantee to cover future power purchases.
