No worries over Black Business Council head’s past role in Fidentia saga
The new president of the Black Business Council has a chequered past, but the influential business lobby group is not worried about this. Newly inaugurated council president Danisa Baloyi has indicated that neither members of the lobby group nor its affiliates expressed concerns about her previous roles at Fidentia, an alleged Ponzi scheme dismantled by the Financial Services Board; or at Absa, where she was fired from the board for her involvement in Fidentia. "I was elected unanimously," Baloyi told Business Day. Gregory Mofokeng, general secretary of the Black Business Council in the Built Environment, an affiliate of the lobby group, confirmed the vote was unanimous. The Black Business Council is an influential lobby group which has won important concessions from the government, including a review of procurement regulations, with the Treasury publishing amendments to the Preferential Procurement Policy Framework Act for public comments in June.
