KWAZULU-Natal premier Willies Mchunu on Tuesday said seven major private-sector investments were taking shape in the province, including a condom factory.The projects are as follows:• HBM and SA health project. This is a condom manufacturing project to supply the local market and export to the rest of the continent, and is a partnership between a local company and a US-headquartered company. The value of this investment will be R65m and will create 200 potential jobs.• Vossloh project. A French company is set to start a manufacturing facility in KwaDukuza. The company currently exports rail fasteners to SA and supplies Prasa and Transnet. This is an import substitution project to the value of R75m, creating 75-100 jobs.• Multi-smelter park project. This is a localisation and beneficiation project to establish 5-8 metallurgical smelters, attracting R16.5bn in foreign direct investment and creating about 8,000 new jobs in the Colenso and Newcastle area.
