GIDANI is due to resume its fight for the national lottery licence in the high court on Monday when it challenges current operator Ithuba Holdings’ capacity to discharge its ambitious mandate to "reinvigorate" the Lotto.This will be one of several challenges Gidani has initiated against Ithuba, the third holder of the eight-year lottery licence, and Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies.The case has been heard before the High Court in Pretoria, and in March the Supreme Court of Appeal rejected Gidani’s leave to appeal application, saying it had "no reasonable prospects of success" and that there was no "other compelling reason" to hear it.Gidani remains adamant that Davies’s awarding Ithuba the licence was irrational and the new operator will fall short of its pledged contributions to the National Lotteries Commission that allocates funds to the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, from which the money is given to good causes.When it was the licence holder, Gidani allocated 34...
