KWV’s strategy to grow its brandy business is the focus of this edition of Business Day Spotlight.

Tracing its roots to 1918, KWV is a Western Cape wine and spirits maker, known nationally for brands like Ponchos, Roodeberg and KWV itself. 

With its brandy having recently won awards at the International Spirits Challenge, the “Olympics” of the spirits industry, Loomes dives into KWV’s strategy around this specific market.

Although only 4% of the African population consumes brandy or cognac, this category is expanding, with Africa emerging as a promising market, Loomes says. 

He also outlines how the company has established and grown its own online retail business over the years.
