Living conditions of mine workers came under scrutiny during sittings of the Marikana inquiry THE human settlements spokesman of the Democratic Alliance (DA) was denied entry on Wednesday to mine workers’ hostels near the koppie where 34 Lonmin employees were killed in 2012.Makashule Gana was on an oversight visit in North West in his capacity as a member of Parliament’s portfolio committee for human settlements.Mr Gana, accompanied by two dozen DA supporters, visited informal settlements around Lonmin’s mining operations following a lack of progress in improving workers’ living conditions, he said.
