National Director of Public Prosecutions Shaun Abrahams has placed his deputy‚ Nomgcobo Jiba‚ and senior prosecutor Lawrence Mrwebi on special leave at their request‚ eNCA reported on Friday night. This follows a judgment in the high court in Pretoria on Thursday which struck their names from the roll of advocates. Jiba, according to her attorney Zola Majavu, has decided it would be best to allow the process to appeal against the judgment happen without holding office. “The fact of the matter is she [Jiba] will not be in office. She would not be on active duty but all her labour law rights remain intact. “The judge made decision on material before him. There is another chance that another panel of judges might come to a different conclusion," Majavu said. The court's judgment followed an application by the General Council of the Bar that Jiba and Mrwebi‚ the head of the Specialised Commercial Crimes Unit‚ were not fit and proper to be members of the Bar.
