Tshwane University of Technology says no students will have to pay higher fees next year. All students will pay the same fees as in 2015, under an agreement reached last week and signed with the SRC on Monday. No student will be excluded because of historical debt. Students who qualify for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) and the "missing middle" students who come from households with an income of less than R600,000 a year will receive government funding, as announced by Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande last month, when he said universities could determine their fee increases up to a maximum of 8%. TUT said on Tuesday that these two groups made up about 90% of its student population, and the remaining 10% of students who were self-funded would receive assistance from the university so that no student would pay increased fees.
