Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande says 90% of students at the University of Fort Hare do not pay any fees at all‚ or do not pay a large part of fees. At the University of Johannesburg‚ this applied to 75% of students. He was speaking in the National Assembly. A group of people wearing Free Education T-shirts stood up as the minister began making his statement on fees. Nzimande encouraged Fees Must Fall protesters to return to class and said the scenes of violence‚ intimidation and destruction of property in protests undermined students’ real concerns. He commented that if 2016’s teaching students did not graduate‚ about 20‚000 classrooms would be without teachers. TMG Digital
