The ANC has finally given up on getting Cecil Burgess appointed as inspector-general of intelligence. Now other aspirants have a week to apply for the job. Parliament’s joint standing committee on intelligence chairman Charles Nqakula has invited applications for the post which has been vacant for a-year-and-a-half. Applicants will undergo checking on qualifications and secret security clearance. The successful candidate is expected to work independently and without fear or bias. Applications close on October 28. The ANC has failed repeatedly to get the two thirds majority needed to get Burgess appointed.
