The University of Cape Town (UCT) says it remains determined to complete the academic year, despite the suspension of classes for first-, second- and third-year undergraduate students in the faculty of health sciences for the rest of the year. The dean of the faculty of health sciences at UCT, Prof Bongani Mayosi, announced the suspension of classes on Thursday amid growing tension on campus. However, he said the decision affected only the first-, second- and third-year students in the faculty. The academic programme for the rest of the faculty continued, as well as for the rest of the university’s faculties. Late on Wednesday, the University of the Western Cape confirmed all face-to-face classes had been suspended due to uncertainty about stability and safety on campus.
