The University of Cape Town (UCT) has appealed for anyone with information about the attack that left two private security guards hospitalised with "significant injuries" to come forward. The attacks came as efforts to broker a "ceasefire" on campus continued and a "plenary session" had been agreed to. The impasse between protesters and management could be closer to resolution. Spokesperson Elijah Moholola said on Wednesday night: "The executive agreed to a formal request from the students calling themselves the SRC [student representative council] candidates to restart the engagement process this afternoon. "Both parties agreed that these discussions should take place in as peaceful an environment as possible‚ and to do what they could to de-escalate tensions on campus."
