Fees Must Fall leader Mcebo Dlamini says police misrepresented his age to embarrass him. The student leader — who is appearing in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on four charges‚ including assaulting a police officer — said his age was deliberately captured incorrectly. Reading out an affidavit in court on Tuesday‚ his lawyer Mongezi Ntanga said Dlamini was born in 1986. "The confusion around my age was meant to embarrass me‚" according to the affidavit. Police announced‚ following his arrest at a University of the Witwatersrand residence on Sunday‚ that he is 32 years old. This is incorrect‚ and he said in his affidavit that he is 30. Dlamini‚ who is applying for bail‚ has been detained at the Cleveland police station. State prosecutor Steven Rubin said part of the evidence against Dlamini was incriminating video footage showing the student leader assaulting a police officer.
