The decision to charge Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan with fraud had a negative effect on the economy and a repeat should be avoided, the ANC says. National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) head Shaun Abrahams on Monday announced the withdrawal of charges against Gordhan and two former SARS officials. ANC spokesman Zizi Kodwa said on Monday that the NPA’s decision to charge "Gordhan and others have had a negative impact on the economy and created unnecessary speculations about the real motive". "The ANC calls on the appointing authority to engage the NPA leadership to avoid a repeat of this and to protect the independence and integrity of the NPA."
