The JSE opened firmer on Tuesday after third-quarter production updates from companies in the Anglo stable were met with a positive reaction in the market. Commodity prices were higher with gold rising 0.23% to $1,267 an ounce. Platinum lifted 1.14% to $946.95 an ounce. The JSE was also following a higher close on the Dow on Monday on upbeat third-quarter earnings among US companies, and mixed Asian markets on Tuesday morning. At 9.30am the all share was 0.51% higher at 51,947.80 and the blue-chip top 40 added 0.54%. Platinums lifted 2% and resources rose 1.22%. Industrials added 0.38%. Banks were up 0.32%. The gold index was flat (-0.03%). The Dow closed 0.43% higher on Monday with market attention on Tuesday focused on results from Apple. The Nikkei 225 rose 0.76%, but the Hang Seng was flat (-0.06%).
