There are only three reasons I can think of for President Jacob Zuma recalling Pravin Gordhan from an important investors’ roadshow. The finance minister arrived back in SA this morning. Zuma, in the brusque manner of Gordhan’s recall, has also tried to add some humiliation to it. The minister, soldier that he is, obeyed immediately. First, it could be to fire him or to reshuffle him out of national treasury, where he stands in the way of the looting Zuma wants to allow to happen. It’s partly for the enrichment of friends, and himself, and of the ANC, which is why so few in the party stand up to it. When you’re on the Left and your party gets into government in a modern and sound economy, you use it to finance yourself. They all do, from SA to Italy, France and Spain.
