Westminster attack: Assailant killed in UK parliament ‘terror’
The House of Commons was immediately suspended after the attack, while at least a dozen people were injured on Westminster Bridge
London — British police shot a suspected attacker outside the Houses of Parliament in London on Wednesday after a "terrorist" incident that included a stabbing rampage on Westminster Bridge. According to witness reports, a car also ploughed into several bystanders on the nearby Westminster Bridge before crashing into railings outside parliament. At least one woman has died, reports said. The building in the heart of the British capital was immediately sealed off and MPs and staff ordered to remain inside. "We are treating this as a terrorist incident until we know otherwise," police said in a statement. Scotland’s devolved parliament suspended a planned vote on Wednesday to give its government a mandate to seek a new independence referendum after the attack. No date for the debate to resume was given. The incident comes with Europe on high alert after a series of deadly jihadist attacks.
