Judges rule that it is up to UK parliament to pull Brexit trigger — not Theresa May
24 January 2017 - 13:03
London — The highest court in Britain has ruled that Prime Minister Theresa May must seek parliamentary permission to trigger the two-year countdown to Brexit. The Supreme Court ruled against the government by an 8-3 vote, Judge David Neuberger said on Tuesday. The judges ruled unanimously, however, that legislatures in Scotland and Northern Ireland will not be voting on the article 50 process. The judges said Britain’s withdrawal from the EU make a fundamental change by cutting off the source of European Union law as well as changing legal rights.
