Mamelodi Sundowns within five points of top spot after Chippa United draw
Mamelodi Sundowns moved within five points of the Premiership summit on Tuesday after drawing 1-1 at Chippa United on a shocking pitch. "You cannot play football on that pitch," said Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane of the uneven, cut-up surface at a stadium in the Eastern Cape township of Mdantsane. Wayne Arendse gave the 2016 CAF Champions League winners the lead and Rhulani Manzini equalised from a penalty before half-time. The draw keeps Sundowns on fifth place, five points behind leaders Cape Town City, with five matches in hand. Chippa rose one place to eighth. The match demonstrated the strength in depth of Sundowns, who started with only two of the team that beat Zamalek of Egypt in the Champions League final.
