African club champions Mamelodi Sundowns were showered with plaudits during a festive arrival at OR Tambo International Airport on Wednesday. They were also given word by Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairman Irvin Khoza that they would get the needed backing when they become the first South African team to participate in the Fifa Club World Cup. Last week, the PSL said it would extend the season by three weeks if Sundowns beat Zamalek in the CAF Champions League final, which they did, but the men from Pretoria might need extra schedule favours. "The league took a concerted decision to extend the season by three weeks," said Khoza. "It’s not going to be easy but we are waiting for the results of the Telkom Knockout game between Sundowns and Polokwane City to see what kind of schedule changes we can come up with.
