The embattled National Freedom Party (NFP) has been thrown into more turmoil after its two expelled leaders were reinstated by the High Court in Pietermaritzburg on Friday. The court ordered that NFP secretary-general Prof Nhlanhla Khubisa and national chairman Maliyakhe Shelembe be reinstated to their positions in the party and as members of the National Assembly. The NFP suspended Khubisa and Shelembe after accusing them and other leaders of playing a part in the NFP’s election debacle. They were accused of not paying a deposit to the Electoral Commission of SA, resulting in the party being barred from the August 2016 local government elections. The leaders have denied the allegations. The NFP was formed six years ago by former Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) chairwoman Zanele KaMagwaza-Msibi.
