Faced with a charge of incitement, EFF leader Julius Malema has responded the best way he knows how: he has intensified calls for his supporters to occupy land. Malema is due to appear in the Madadeni Regional Court for contravening the Riotous Assemblies Act. In December 2014, Malema told supporters in Bloemfontein to occupy land. In June 2016, he sang from the same hymn book while in Madadeni, KwaZulu-Natal. EFF general secretary Godrich Gardee explains that Malema was reiterating the party’s conference resolution. In typical fighter fashion, the party’s response is that "we’re going to attack … from all angles", insists Gardee. He does not understand why the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has singled out two instances when Malema instructed supporters to occupy vacant land; the EFF leader has done this countless times on previous occasions.
