If the visa red tape persists not only will it hamper the film industry, but the knock-on effect to many other industries will be enormous (Incentive revisions hamper film industry, October 17). In the Western Cape there are hundreds and probably thousands of small businesses that live off the larger companies that are directly involved in the film industry. These industries range from the supply of food to security. Each movie set becomes a hive of activity and hundreds of employees are indirectly engaged on short-term contracts to do the necessary. The film industry in the Western Cape is a fantastic hub of opportunity, from the most skilled to the person with absolutely no experience or skills whatsoever. When watching a movie set being set up and in action it is fascinating to note the job creation opportunities throughout.
