The Competition Commission wants the Competition Appeal Court to find Media24 guilty of a more serious contravention of the competition law and levy an administrative penalty on the media company for predatory pricing in the Goldfields community newspaper market.On Thursday, the commission announced it was appealing against the Competition Tribunal’s ruling over the merits of it as well as the remedies. The decision to appeal was made possible by Media24’s appeal against the merits of the ruling.The commission’s move seems designed to ensure Media24 does not avoid censure for predatory pricing, said one leading competition lawyer.
