A police Nyala, which had been stationed at the University of Witwatersrand that saw a lot of violent clashes between Fees Must Fall protesters and the police last year, has been vandalised. The vehicle had been in Braamfontein at the university piazza in front of the Great Hall since protests broke out in September last year had, among other things, the words "F**k the police" painted on it. A keffiyeh scarf‚ which was worn by a lot of students during the protests‚ was seen hanging from one of the Nyala’s windows. National police spokesperson Brigadier Sally de Beer confirmed that the vehicle had been vandalised overnight and that the police were investigating the case. "The police are present to ensure the safety of all and it is regrettable that this has happened," she said. "We are taking steps to identify the culprits, who could face malicious damage to property charges." TMG Digital
