Zuma decides not to suspend Jiba and Mrwebi
The presidency says no inquiry will be instituted into the two regarding their fitness to hold office; they are, however, still on special leave
President Jacob Zuma has decided not to suspend or institute an inquiry into deputy national prosecuting authority head Nomgcobo Jiba and commercial crimes unit head Lawrence Mrwebi’s fitness to hold office. "Having considered the representations made by Advocate Jiba and Advocate Mrwebi, and the decision of the North Gauteng High Court to grant the two prosecutors leave to appeal, the president has decided not to suspend them or institute any inquiry until the finalisation of the leave process," presidency spokesperson Bongani Ngqulunga said. Jiba and Mrwebi are still on special leave. The two are approaching the Supreme Court of Appeal in a bid to have a high court order that they be struck off the advocates’ roll overturned. In September 2016, Judge Francis Legodi ruled in favour of the General Council of the Bar of SA’s application that Jiba and Mrwebi be declared not fit and proper to be members of the Bar.
